Germany 1:1 Italy (6:5 on penalties): Die Mannschaft progresses via crazy shootout.
The much awaited clash between the two football giants Germany and Italy lived up to its billing as a tightly contested match was edged by Germany.
The game started slowly as both sides grew into the game with Giacherrini and Graziano Pelle causing Germany problems. Germany also had chances of their own but both defences couldn't be broken down. The half time finished equal but didn't stay like that long after the restart. A well executed pass through the Italian defence by Mario Gomez released Jonas Hector whose diagonal pass was buried by Mesut Ozil. Germany poured out to find an equalizer and thier efforts were rewarded when Jerome Boateng committed a needless foul in the box. Defender Bonucci subsequently buried the resulting spotkick.
Both teams tried to get the winning goal but both defences stayed solid as the game progressed to extra time and then needed penalties to settle the game.
Simone Zaza, Graziano Pelle, Leonardo Bonucci and Matteo Darmian missed for Italy, while Thomas Muller, Mesut Ozil and captain Bastian Schweinsteiger also missed for Germany.
Darmian's miss paved the way for Jonas Hector to bury the deciding penalty and send Germany to the semi final at the expense of Italy for the first time in 9 attempts.
Germany will face the winner between France and Iceland for a spot in the Euro 2016 final.
Congrats Die Mannschaft!!
