EURO Semifinal 2 Preview

Germany vs France 20:00 (GMT + 1). Hosts look to stop world champions.

In about an hour, EURO 2016 hosts France will take on the reigning world champions Germany at the Stade Velodrome in France for a spot in the EURO 2016 final showpiece.

Even though France have not always been domineering in their matches, they have always managed to get the job done. Late wins and a draw against Switzerland in the group stage was enough to take them through to the round of 16 where the team stayed strong despite going down early to record a comeback win with Antoine Griezmann finally stepping up.
England's capitulation af the hands of Iceland gave them the perfect chance to exert themselves truly on this competition and they took it with glee. Their 5:2 demolition of Iceland will undoubtedly help their confidence and they will be looking to keep their run going against the world champions and even all the way.

Germany have had a similar run in this tournament. Two wins including a 1:0 win against Northern Ireland and a dour draw against now eliminated Poland secured their progression where a 3:0 demolition of Slovakia set up a matchup against Italy which had to be settled via penalties. The truth is the reigning world champions have had it good but not great. They will be looking to display a show of strength today to capture the minds of fans across the world.

Today at the Velodrome will be a matchup of two truly complete and compact teams and will definitely live up to expectations.

Crystal Palace step up Benteke bid.

Crystal Palace has submitted an improved bid to Liverpool for the services of 25 year old Belgian striker Christian Benteke.
Liverpool turned down an initial £25 million bid for the striker but an improved £31.5 million bid could be enough to convince the Liverpool hierarchy to part with the striker.

I doubt Liverpool fans will miss Benteke. Even though he managed to score 10 goals in all competitions last season, most notably a superb overhead effort in a 3:1 loss to Manchester United, most fans will remember him more for his lackluster performances and his clear misses during his time at the club.

The Eagles provide an ideal atmosphere for the former Villa goal machine to rediscover his best form.

Can he? Only time will tell.

Emery set season goals.

Paris Saint Germain head coach Unai Emery has set high goals for the upcoming season. The former Sevilla head coach replaced Laurent Blanc despite the former coach winning three straight Ligue 1 titles. Speculations abound that his replacement was due to his failure on the continental stage as he couldn't progress past the quarter final stage on three occasions.
Emery was brought in on the back of three Europa league triumphs and its a no brainer that he has to repeat his heroics to impress the wealthy arab owners.

Germany defies history to progress

Germany 1:1 Italy (6:5 on penalties): Die Mannschaft progresses via crazy shootout.

The much awaited clash between the two football giants Germany and Italy lived up to its billing as a tightly contested match was edged by Germany.

The game started slowly as both sides grew into the game with Giacherrini and Graziano Pelle causing Germany problems. Germany also had chances of their own but both defences couldn't be broken down. The half time finished equal but didn't stay like that long after the restart. A well executed pass through the Italian defence by Mario Gomez released Jonas Hector whose diagonal pass was buried by Mesut Ozil. Germany poured out to find an equalizer and thier efforts were rewarded when Jerome Boateng committed a needless foul in the box. Defender Bonucci subsequently buried the resulting spotkick.

Both teams tried to get the winning goal but both defences stayed solid as the game progressed to extra time and then needed penalties to settle the game.

Simone Zaza, Graziano Pelle, Leonardo Bonucci and Matteo Darmian missed for Italy, while Thomas Muller, Mesut Ozil and captain Bastian Schweinsteiger also missed for Germany.
Darmian's miss paved the way for Jonas Hector to bury the deciding penalty and send Germany to the semi final at the expense of Italy for the first time in 9 attempts.
Germany will face the winner between France and Iceland for a spot in the Euro 2016 final.

Congrats Die Mannschaft!!
