Marcelo Bielsa quits Lazio job

Newly appointed Lazio coach Marcelo Bielsa has resigned just two days into the job. He was meant to travel to Rome to sign documents with the club on Saturday but he called the club's boss and told him in plain terms that he was not coming to Rome.

Rumours are rife that his shock decision was due to the vacant Argentina job. Tata Martino resigned from his post after losing the Copa America final to Chile and Bielsa has been touted as a potential candidate for the job

Bielsa was Argentina coach between 1998 -2004 and might have weighed his options and have favoured a national team job over a club's job. If this was a wise decision will be determined in the next few weeks.

The Italian club had threatened Marcelo with legal action. Simone Inzaghi will retain his post as interim manager.
