Portugal 2:0 Wales: Ronaldo shows up as Portugal progresses.
The first semi final of the EURO 2016 definitely lived up to its billing as man of the moment Cristiano Ronaldo finally showed what he is capable of.
The much anticipated match started with both teams cancelling put each others moves with Ronaldo in particular being pushed and shoved and manhandled by the Welsh defense. Wales began to apply pressure and actually went close on few occasions but were not able to put the ball in the net. Portugal on the other hand were not able to find anyone in the box with their crosses and the game went to halftime on a stalemate.
After the interval, the game continued in like fashion until the 55th minute when Cristiano Ronaldo was left free in the box to power a fantastic header past Hennessey from Raphael Guerreiro's corner.
The Real Madrid star was also influential in the second goal as his shot was deflected on by former team club teammate Nani.
Wales and Bale went all out to try and get back into the game leaving space behind their defence which Portugal almost exploited for a third as Ronaldo and Danilo went close but the game stayed that way as Rui Patricio and the Portuguese defense stayed strong to ensure they qualify for their first Euro final in 12 years.
