Leicester have their work cut out

If Leicester City are going to continue to prove pundits wrong next season in the English Premier League
which they did so comfortably last season and in the European Champions League which is a new challenge like no other, then they really haven't done enough.

If Claudio Ranieri doesn't want his title defense to follow the path laid down by Chelsea and Jose Mourinho, then I believe the team needs some urgent upgrading ahead of the new season

The transfers completed by the EPL defending champions have been mostly targeting the attack with Ahmed Musa signing from CSKA Moscow and Polish winger Kapustka also joining recently.

But if their recent drubbing at the hands of Paris Saint Germain; one of the many teams they will be up against in the Champions League; is anything to go by, then subsequent transfers need to strengthen other areas of the pitch with the defense and midfield especially lacking. The ill advised departure of N'Golo Kante to Chelsea has left a huge hole that need to be filled in the midfield and I sincerely hope that Morgan and Robert Huth won't be the central defenders lining up next season.

Experience has shown that sheer determination which worked so well in England might not really make a difference against the likes of stellar attacking lineups like the Barcelona's MSN or the Real Madrid's BBC. Just ask Manchester City.

So I believe that if Leicester really want to challenge in any of the four competitions they will be participating in next season, then they need an urgent injection of young agile and hungry fresh faces into their midfield and defensive areas in order to give The Tinkerman a deep squad to perform his magic.

As much as Arsene Wenger keeps whining about the lack of quality signings in the market, Denis Suarez, a relatively unknown midfielder stole the headlines in Barcelona's last game, Michy Batshuayi just completed a move to Chelsea and many other players are out there ready for their move to the big stage.

With the mega money from their league triumph last season in the banks and also the cash from their ill advised sale of N'Golo Kante to Chelsea, now is the time to reinvest and prove to the world that Leicester City are not a one time wonder. Today's 4:0 defeat against the full might of Paris Saint Germain definitely outlined the need for new quality signings all over the pitch.

Make no mistake, team stars like Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez are players that can create magical moments against even the best, but I believe that to compete and beat the world top teams, a few team stars won't do, you need a star studded team.
