Champions League back with a bang

The countdown begins as the 25th edition of the biggest trophy in club football kicks off tomorrow and the race to The Millenium Stadium, Cardiff begins.

Defending champions Real Madrid will be looking to be the first team to defend their crown and with the squad at their disposal including the competition's highest goal scorer ever, Cristiano Ronaldo, they can't be ruled out.

Barcelona didn't have the best of times last season in the competition bowing out to Atletico Madrid but they look setup this time with their new signings to go a bit further or even lift the trophy for the umpteenth time.

Other strong favorites include reinvigorated Bayern Munich with experienced Champions League winning coach Carlo Ancelotti hoping to maneuver his team to the trophy he has won on three different occasions.

Paris Saint Germain who has made no secret of their obsession with winning the Champions League will also be looking to defy bookmakers odds and lift the trophy come next year and with former Sevilla coach Unai Emery now directing affairs, don't count them out.

All eyes will be on Manchester City's performance as two time Champions League winning coach Pep Guardiola will have to better the team's semifinal appearance in the last edition. Likely? Well lets wait and see.

Other contenders for the prize include Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal, big spenders Juventus and Borussia Dortmund will hope to defy the odds and give a commendable showing in the competition.

Premier League defending champions and runner-ups, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur will have a lot to prove to progress against established heavyweights in what could turn out to be their biggest test this season.

It's exciting, its captivating, it's fun, its time to leave your girlfriends, people, say goodbye to your families, grab a beer and get comfy.
