Leicester 1:2 Manchester United. Zlatan heads home to win Shield for Red Devils
Manchester United has won the 2016 Community Shield in a well deserved victory against English Premier League defending champions Leicester City. Summer signings Zlatan Ibrahimovich and Eric Bailly were handed competitive debuts while Wayne Rooney, Maroune Fellaini and Luke Shaw also featured for the FA Cup winners. Star striker Jamie Vardy and his partner in crime Riyad Mahrez were named in a strong line up for Leicester.
The game started with Manchester United looking to control the game with their opponents getting on the counter. Eric Bailly was called into action again and again to cancel out the recurring threat posed by last season 24 goal striker Jamie Vardy.
Lots of chances were created on both sides with neither team able to take advantage until the 25th minute. FA Cup winner Jesse Lingard served up a true classic goal as he danced his way past three players before nutmegging Morgan and placing a precise finish past Schmeichel.
Manchester United were content to sit back and defend their lead and they did so well until the 51st minute when a back pass from Fellaini freed Jamie Vardy who simply rounded De Gea and got the equalizer.
Both teams cancelled themselves out effectively until the 83rd minute when Zlatan Ibrahimovich outmuscled Morgan and sent a looping header past Schmeichel from a Valencia cross.
Despite late pressure, United held on to seal their 21st Community Shield triumph
