Hold your horses, soccer fans! Paul Pogba is worth every penny.
News reports today announced that Manchester United has reached an agreement with Juventus to sign French midfielder Paul Pogba for a fee of around €110 million which would make him the most expensive player in history. This piece of business has drawn a lot of comments and reactions most negative and doubtful with many believing that Pogba would never be able to justify that price.
I truly believe we should think differently, even though that amount is really huge for a player, it was never about the price, just ask Real Madrid about Gareth Bale and they would reply you with two Champions League trophies and other bonuses which most likely must have paid back the money spent on the player.
But lets examine Pogba's CV shall we?
Paul Labile Pogba has been capped 38 times by the French national team scoring six goals, he has appeared 124 times for Juventus scoring 28 goals and he has won eight trophies including four successive Scudetti with the Italian giants. He has won lots of individual accolades including the best player in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup which he captained and wonwith the French U-20 team, he was also in the 2015 UEFA team of the year and the FIFPro XI in the same year. Pogba has reached the final of the European Championships and the final of the Champions League albeit failing to win on both occasions.
Hate him all you want, argue all you want but i believe this is a rather impressive CV for a 23 year old and most elite midfielders didn't have this at that age.
Apart from his CV, anyone who has seen Pogba play would agree with me that he has a midfield control that is just simply class. A lot of the player's critics are judging him with his performance at the just concluded European Championship where he truly performed below his high standards but it would be unfair to judge a player after a long season by his performance in a 2 month summer tournament.
Paul Pogba has scored many really great goals, he makes some really great touches on the ball and he adds his own flavour to his game, most especially his "dab" celebration. He can play as a defensive, central and attacking midfielder, he has great pace, ball control, strength and vision which he shows in his accurate long and short defence splitting passes which he most likely learnt from the master, Andrea Pirlo.
Recently he has even evolved his game to be a goal scoring attacking midfielder as he showed at the beginning of the season for Juventus.
Well its all there folks, make your predictions and comments, but i do believe that Paul Pogba could be just what we need in our midfield to reattain our previous glorious heights.
To crown it all, at Pogba's age, he is yet to hit his peak years as a midfielder, if he has achieved these at his age, it would be safe to say he can only get better in his role, let's forget the price, we would have a true gem of a player on our hands if the deal goes through.
