The English FA today confirmed the appointment of Sunderland manager and long term English Premier League coach Sam Allardyce as their new national team coach on a 2 year deal.
The post of the head coach has been vacant since Roy Hodgson's resignation after England were ingloriously knocked out of the European Championships in France by minnows Iceland.
Coaches like Steve Bruce (who has left Hull City), Roberto Martinez and Sam Allardyce were interviewed by the FA and the former West Ham coach was chosen to lead England's rebuild ahead of the 2018 World Cup holding in Russia.
The 61 year old fondly called Big Sam by colleagues and fans alike has coached teams like Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers, West Ham and most recently Sunderland; who he helped to avoid relegation last season; in a manager career stretching back as far as 1991. Pundits are divided over his appointment but with the majority believing that Big Sam could be just what England needs to start producing on the national stage.
Readers what do you think? Do you think Sam can succeed where Roy failed or its just a case of like replacing like?? Drop your comments below please.
