Liverpool striker to undergo Crystal Palace medical

6' 3" Liverpool striker Christian Benteke will undergo a medical at Crystal Palace today as the Belgian inches closer towards a club record £27 million move (with over £5 million in add-ons) to Selhurst Park.

Benteke has been at the centre of a bidding war throughout this transfer window with West Ham, Crystal Palace and even Aston Villa themselves vying for his signature with home club Liverpool remaining firm on his £30 million clause.

The 25 year old striker joined Liverpool from Aston Villa for a fee of £32.5 million after scoring 49 goals in 100 appearances for Villa establishing himself as one for the best goal scorers in the league.

However the point man couldn't live up to expectation at Anfield and found playing time difficult to come by despite making 43 appearances scoring 10 goals including a superb overhead kick in a 3:1 defeat to Manchester United.

Crystal Palace's manager Alan Pardew has talked about his close relationship and admiration for the striker and is hoping the new man will give his side a lift ahead of the new season.
