Real Sociedad 0:3 Real Madrid
Real Madrid recorded a comfortable win over Real Sociedad yesterday in their first league game of the season. Madrid who last won La Liga in 2011/12 with Jose Mourinho were looking to build on their strong finish last season where they won 12 games consecutively. Madrid were without the services of Karim Benzena, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric, Pepe and Keylor Navas but still came out tops comfortably in one of the traditionally difficult fixtures of La Liga.
Any fears about the team's ability to deliver were extinguished in the 2nd minute as Gareth Bale nodded in Dani Carvajal cross for Madrid's first goal of the season.
Real Sociedad struggled to really create any clear cut chances and they got further pegged back in the 40th minute when teenage starlet Marco Asensio's brilliant first touch from Raphael Varane's long ball was followed up by a sublime chip over Geronimo Rulli, Sociedad's goalie.
Sociedad came more determined in the second half and asked questions of the Madrid defence including having penalty appeals ignored after Dani Carvajal appeared to foul Markel Bergara in the box.
Toni Kroos hit the crossbar with a trademark rasping effort as Real Madrid once again took control and caused problems for Sociedad back line.
Gareth Bale was denied by Rulli in a one on one situation while Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla had to be alert to keep out a Mikel Oyarzabal's effort.
In the 92nd minute, Gareth Bale put the game to bed as he started a trademark surging run from midfield and placed the ball past Rulli to send the away fans into raptures.
