How to escape the Nigerian Rat Race
Truth be told, Nigeria is a hard country to get a very good job especially when you didn't graduate with the First classes and the Second Class Uppers. But, we must make it one way or the other right? So what can you do to help yourself?
- Get a Masters degree immediately. As long as you are eligible, get your masters degree immediately preferably outside the country but still a local masters degree is still acceptable.
- Get professional certifications related firstly to cost (money handling) then your professional fields. The more you get, the more your chances are.
- Don't let it weigh you down. The moment you begin to look down on yourself because you made a 2 2, then you wont really be optimistic about the future. That is a killer.
- Write a compact CV. Get professional help if you can't. A well written CV could be the gateway to that dream job of yours.
- Trust in God. You need Him more than ever. Many people have gotten jobs their mates who made better degrees weren't able to by His Grace.
- ATTEND MEETINGS AND GATHERINGS RELATED TO YOUR FIELD. MAKE CONTACTS & FRIENDSHIPS ANYWHERE YOU FIND YOURSELF. LET PEOPLE LOOK AT YOU, YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WANT, WALK UP TO MANAGERS AND ASK FOR THEIR CONTACTS.
The truth is though even with all this, it might still not work out. Don't give up. That's the time to start going for skill training. Education is to make you useful to the society. Start a business (not a small business).
- Importation (All you need is dollars and a computer)
- Livestock farming (Very very lucrative, crazy returns)
- AutoCAD Design (Become a draughtsman)
And many others.
Be patient, don't give up. Its not the end.
HOLD ON!
